Pelé played on three World Cup teams - in 1958 when he was 18, 1962 and 1970. He remains the Brazilian national team’s all-time leading scorer with 77 goals; 12 in 14 World Cup appearances. Officially he scored 757 goals in 831 games during his 20-year career from 1957 to 1977—although his club, Santos, claims about 1,000 goals. Santos has a memorial video here.

In recent years he had hip problems and a hip replacement which did not go well making it difficult for him to walk and be in public.

Pelé received his first Covid shot March 2, 2021. In September 2021, he had surgery to remove a colon tumor. He cancer treatment could not stop its spread.

RIP Pelé. Much love for what you added to the beautiful game. 5 goals here.

He was so loved and admired by all my male relatives obsessed with soccer (real football I mean). Absolute legend.
